Fire Management Consultant: Defensible Space Program
Each year, hundreds of homes and acres of land are destroyed by wildland fires. As the photo to the right clearly illustrates, using fire-safe landscaping around your home can protect your property from such devastating fires. The following is the fire safety minimum requirements outside the home that Fire Management Consultant can do for you.
Clear all Flammable Vegetation Adjacent to Your Home
- We will maintain a minimum of 30-100 feet of brush clearance around any building or structure. Extra hazardous conditions may require up to 200 feet of clearance.
- We will remove accumulation of hazardous refuse.
- We will stack woodpiles at least 30 feet from buildings, fences and other combustible materials.
- We will remove all needles, leaves and other dead vegetative growth from roofs, eaves and rain gutters.
- We will clear deadwood from trees or other vegetation adjacent to or overhanging a building.
- We will maintain 5 feet of clearance between roof surfaces and any trees.
- We will maintain trees so that no leafy foliage, twigs, or branches are within 5 feet of the ground.
We can keep all roadways clear and unobstructed
- We can clear and maintain a minimum unobstructed vertical clearance of 13 feet 6 inches.
- We can remove and clear all flammable vegetation or other combustible growth within 10 feet of each side of the roadway.
