To fly your drone under the FAA’s Small UAS Rule (Part 107), you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. This certificate demonstrates that you understand the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures.
Emergency Response
Students will be introduced to best practices for first responders including case studies of previous incidents, types of UAV for each incident, uses and limitations. The course will include development of a UAV program that fits departmental and organizations public needs.
Hands on flight time
Students will be provided with a small practice drone to fly under the supervision of a pilot in command and instructor. Students will also practice hands on flights on a UAV (NIST) obstacle course level 1.

This course provides detailed information, and skills training required, to improve an individual’s level of comfort and confidence for safely performing rescues in static and surface water conditions. Safety is strongly emphasized.
An additional certificate from FMC stating this course meets or exceeds the requirements of NFPA Chapter 4.5,11, and 15 for Surf Rescue Level 1.
This course is conducted in the open ocean with surf conditions.
